northeast biofuels conference on 6th May 2004 at the Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough

An emerging opportunity for the Region in renewable transport fuels - Transport fuels made from renewable resources have the potential to make a real contribution to an improvement in the environment and to the Region's rural and urban economies. They address the issues of global warming, urban pollution, the depletion of fossil fuels, rural sustainability and industrial growth.

northeast biofuels, an alliance of companies and organisations committed to the development of a sustainable biotransportfuels business in the region, organised this conference to inform interested parties of the opportunity.

Speakers included Werner Koerbitz of the Austrian Biofuels Institute, who is generally acknowledged to be the leading expert in Europe on biotransportfuels, representatives of the UK Government, the Regional Development Agency, farmers and the oil, chemical and motor industries. Presentations covered some of the investment plans that will transform the theoretical opportunity into a reality and create new jobs and generate increased wealth within the Region.

The conference was designed to meet the needs of those in the public sector who have responsibilities for the rural and industrial development strategies and those involved in renewable fuels and recycling. It likewise interested those who see biofuels as a business opportunity, be they farmer, industrialists or transport fleet operators.
